My move to Cumbria - Tihomir Velkov

When MacArthur Recruitment found a new job for Tihomir Velkov, they helped him find a new life as well.

Tihomir is an architect who came to England from Bulgaria a year ago with his partner, a psychology practitioner now working in the NHS. Her family live in London, but it was in the north-west, in Cumbria, that she and Tihomir settled when he started working for M & P Gadsden Consulting Engineers Limited.

Gadsden is a family run consulting engineering firm based in Barrow and serving Cumbria and North Lancashire. Over the past 30 years they have built a solid client base with a reputation for offering quality service, offering services and solutions across the full spectrum of the construction industry.

They employ fully qualified staff across a range of specialisms and expertise covering all sorts of small to medium scale schemes, from domestic up to steel frames for factories and low rise buildings.

And it was here, with the help of the MacArthur team, that Tihomir found his own ideal home base. He had trained as an architect in Bulgaria and worked for an architect’s studio in Sofia on a range of commercial and residential projects.

“I was very nervous when I came here, as I didn’t know what to expect,” says Tihomir, who now lives in Barrow. “MacArthur made it so easy for me. They were really helpful in finding me this position, but they went further still, helping me to get driving lessons organised, which I needed for the job.”

MacArthur MD Ewen Alcorn said that their help had made big, positive changes for Tihomir. “We’ve been in touch since he started the job, generally helping him to get settled in.”

And that’s what Tihomir has been doing, settling in and getting to know the area around the south Lakes, visiting Windermere and Ambleside, and indulging his love of the outdoors.

“I’ve always dreamed of doing something like this,” he says. “Barrow is a really friendly place to live. My only complaint is the weather!”
